GPUMC UMYF Ropes Retreat 1998

Here's a bit more of what you're in for!

In addition to the afternoon on the ropes, we spent time working together on other projects.
We built towers, wrote stories, watched movies (this is good watermelon), worshipped,
and ate our meals together.
One especially memorable meal was dinner on Saturday when we mixed our seating in
with the other two UM church groups who were at the camp that weekend:
the UMYF from Ferndale First UMC, and the Young Adults from Hope UMC, Southfield

Teamwork and engineering skill came in handy with traditional camp building materials: colored mini-marshmallows and uncooked spaghetti.
There seems to be a pattern forming here: build triangular sections that support each other ...
OK, so much for patterns and engineering.  Guess which tower ended up the tallest.

After all that construction, it was time for our initiatives.  See how enthusiastic everyone was as we awaited our facilitators, John and Paul? (George and Ringo couldn't make it that day.)
"Put our hands where?"
"You want us to do what with this bike tire?"
"An inner tube going which way?"
These and many more questions were asked and answered in the course of our initiatives.  We even flipped the bird to each other (no, of course we don't mean that, ask someone who was there.)
Of course, football was a major part of the weekend's activity.  Here we see the sidelines during a time-out.
There was always the lake shore for a relaxing beautiful view by the fire pit and the Worship area.
